November 4th – December 31st

The Arts Mill announces “small art|BIG STORIES,” a national art exhibit. All media artists, sculptors, and photographers are invited to create visual works on any subject or theme that does exceed 12” in any direction.

This will be a sale-and-take exhibit (patrons will be allowed to purchase and take the art that day).

  • All media accepted, national show (the US only)
  • Art size must not exceed 12” in any direction including the frame.  Frame not necessary.
  • Online Registration Required to Participate.
  • NO WALK-IN ENTRIES ARE ACCEPTED.
  • Entry fee: $35 for up to 3 digital entries, Images – jpeg format only

Entries must be original, entirely the work of the entrant, and not based on any copyrighted work – no giclee or reproductions except for photography. Note: photography must be matted, under glass – photos printed on canvas will not be accepted.




C O N D I T I O N S:

The size of the work may not exceed 12” on the longest side, including the frame. All two-dimensional works on paper must be under glass or plexiglass. Works on canvas must be either in frames or gallery-wrapped canvas with sides painted. All work must be ready for presentation with the appropriate framing, hanging wires, etc. No spring clips; work must be screwed into the frame; No saw-tooth hanging – wire only. Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, alter a work, change the sales price, nor withdraw or remove a work after it has been accepted. All work must be for sale and must be removed from any online sales venue for the duration of the show. The Arts Mill reserves the right to refuse any entry which does not match the images submitted or meet the criteria enumerated here. The gallery will take a 40% commission on any work sold. All work must be for sale.  The $35 entry fee is not refundable.

Entry Requirements:

All entries must be submitted electronically by Midnight, Tuesday, October 11th. (See above for the link to the online payment form.)

Judging will be done only from JPEGs. No other formats will be accepted. JPEGs must be 72 dpi and at least 600 pixels but not greater than 1200 pixels in either direction.

JPEG images MUST BE labeled Last Name_FIRST Name_1, 2, 3, etc.

For example:

  • smith_joe_1.jpg
  • smith_joe_2.jpg
  • Smith_joe_3.jpg

Files that are mislabeled or lack the artist’s name will not be viewed by the juror.

Entry email must be filled out completely. Failure to follow instructions may result in the nullification of your entry. Your payment will serve as your acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus. Fees are non-refundable.

To Enter:

1.) Email JPEGS of your work to Paula DeStefanis at paulac@northshoreacademyofthearts.org

JPEG images MUST BE labeled Last Name_FIRST Name_1, 2, 3, etc.

2.) In the subject line enter “small art/BIG STORIES”

3.) In the Body of the email include the number of the piece, title, size, medium, and price of each artwork in the attachment.

2022 Juror 

Ellen Carpenter is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Durham, NC. A former leader in UX Design and Communications at Microsoft, her experience harnessing the power of narrative in product and user interface design has become reference to storytelling via her craft. Her interests include symbology, visual narratives, and the exploration of cultural imagery in art. Ellen studied Communications at DePaul University, UX Design at the University of Colorado and is currently pursuing an MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has gallery representation in Raleigh, NC and Cedarburg, WI. As a member of the broader arts community she seeks to make the arts accessible to all who are interested.
