Stella Holmes’ Studio Art
Growing up in Detroit I looked for any park or space that provided light and beauty. I was an avid sewer at a very young age and so I created with fabric making most of my clothing from 5th grade to adulthood. Creating took me to another place. I continued on to make many outfits and designs of my own through the 1970’s. My art interest grew from pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, oils, stained glass, mosaic, hand painted clothing, hand painted silk, silk screen, hand carved stamps and now acrylic.
In 1988 I took a Silk Painting Class in Mendocino, California. The flow of the paint on silk drew me in. Herein started a journey and the start of a business creating hand painted silk scarves and hand painted wearable art clothing. I did many Art Shows throughout California and Michigan for 18 years. After moving to other states a few times, I started going back to my roots of painting on canvas. Along my journey to other states and cities that I’ve lived, I took numerous workshops including pastels, jewelry making, watercolor, abstract and landscape painting. My style and inspiration are of the impressionist period of which Van Gogh and Monet are my favorites. Trees and nature are what helps keep me grounded and brings me peace. In my paintings I try to draw the viewer into the scene with the balance of light and color. I want others to see the joy and beauty of the sunlight peeking through.
