Karin Savage – GARDEN DESIGN • NATURAL SCIENCE ILLUSTRATION
-
My work has always centered around plants. First working as a flower designer then transitioning to garden design, I have been drawn to nature all of my life.
I began sketching plants while studying horticulture at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Detailing the color, form, and characteristics of each plant helped me identify them in the field. As a result, I became interested in the art of botanical illustration. This traditional art form, first used for scientific classification, has remained timeless for centuries.
My style of painting is a modern approach to botanical illustration. I use acrylic paints because they are the perfect combination of watercolors and oils.
In addition to botanical illustration, I also design gardens. I meet with clients to create comprehensive landscape plans with four seasons of interest.
Please visit my studio, The Arts Mill Studio and Boutique in Grafton for garden consultations and botanical gifts. I also sell my work at the Museum of Wisconsin Art Holiday Show, ‘Art in Bloom’ at the Milwaukee Art Museum, The Schlitz Audubon Art Fair, and the Artist’s Palette in Manitowish Waters.
